DOCTOR NATIVO
Doctor Nativo is one of Central America's most prominent talents. His music is contagious and explosive, containing a profound message, linking the ancestral with the contemporary, reimagining and remixing traditional rhythms with socially conscious lyrics that celebrate resistance and grassroots empowerment over a powerful sound combining reggae, cumbia, hip-hop and pre-Hispanic instruments.
From an early age Nativo’s love for music was obvious, influenced by his father, the Cuban musician, Arturito Martinez. During his youth, he embarked on his first trip from Guatemaya to Cuba; Havana and its magic captivated him. It was a dream to reconnect with his heritage and study at the National School of Art (ENA) which was his catapult to Barcelona where he was immersed in the street music scene for several years polishing himself as an MC, mastering his art through direct contact with the public, becoming one of the most entertaining and inspiring frontmen of these times. The street was where he learned to sing loud, look people in the eye, and play without permission or a stage. He started on corners, in markets, on sidewalks, where music doesn’t get applause out of politeness, only when it hits something real.
Doctor Nativo is on a mission to raise consciousness through music, a party with a purpose. Led by Juan Nativo, main vocals and guitar, virtuoso African-American violinist, Nay Roze, extraordinary Puerto Rican drummer, Jennie "La Bestia" Delgado, Honduran percussionist Alexis "La Jefa", and his son Apox on the bass.
Doctor Nativo doesn’t make music to fit into genres; he makes music to remember.
